The Christological Cycle of the Monogrammist ME in the New Testaments printed by Jiri Melantrich z Aventinu
Summary: This paper is a research study into the relationship of renaissance printers with the printed image. It deals with the christological cycle of the Monogrammist ME of the 1530s and adds 15 unknown items to the list of his illustrations. The cycle was also used by the printer Jiří Melantrich z Aventinu during the 1560s in his editions of the New Testament. He even ordered copies of the woodblocks made before 1576. The successful sale of the title was ensured thanks to the re-use of the original, which contained motives well accepted by readers, and the expenses on the artist (author of the sketch) were spared.
